A new report has arisen that indicates that PlayStation is in the process of creating its own subscription service similar to Xbox Game Pass. In recent years, many have begun to wonder if Sony would seek to develop a platform of this nature following the success of Microsoft with the Game Pass model. And although Sony already has services such as PlayStation Plus and PlayStation Now, it seems that the publisher will soon evolve the way it sells these platforms.
According to Bloomberg, it is said that this new version of PlayStation of Game Pass has the name in code Spartacus and will allow customers to access the games that have reached the PlayStation platforms in the past. It is said that Spartacus will be launched at some point in early 2022 and will also merge PlayStation PLUS and PlayStation NOW. The report continues affirming that due to this new combination, PS Now will end up being withdrawn, although it is said that the PS Plus brand will remain.
When it comes to how Spartacus will work, Bloomberg informs that the service will have three different levels with which subscribers can compromise. The first will simply be equated to the current benefits that are included with PlayStation Plus, while the second then would give subscribers access to a series of different PS4 and PS5 titles. The third level, which would be the most expensive in the group, would give subscribers access to numerous PlayStation past games. The report indicates that PS1, PS2, PS3 and PSP games would be included. In addition, this third level would also give subscribers the possibility of reproducing certain demonstrations of upcoming titles.
In general, it seemed only a matter of time until PlayStation launch a service of this type. And although it remains to be seen if Spartacus will end up deploying the exact way that has been described, it seems that we could learn more about its existence in a short time.
